101 of Asbestos Abatement

Scientists have spent a lot of time exploring the uses and harms of various elements and some recent studies have reflected the damages of substances that were once commonly used for lead and mold. Another such research indicates the hazards of a commonly found mineral fiber, i.e., Asbestos. Hence, the process like asbestos abatement, lead abatement, etc., are required to solve the problem.

Mainly found in rocks and soil, manufacturers have used Asbestos for a very long time. Due to features like versatility, strength, affordability, resistance to heat, chemicals, and electricity, asbestos finds its uses in construction materials, automotive parts, tiles, shingles, and even textiles. With time, asbestos fibers divide into small but easy to breathe in pieces known to affect lungs severely and can cause various health issues. Asbestos exposure can lead to problems like mesothelioma and other asbestos-related cancers. With revelations of hazards related to asbestos, its removal becomes a necessary process. The process of getting rid of it with the help of a licensed asbestos removal contractor is known as an Asbestos abatement.

Getting Rid of Asbestos

The use of Asbestos got banned in the United States in 1978. While it is not in use anymore, the removal of existing Asbestos also becomes a necessary step. Materials in good condition generally do not cause any harm; hence it requires a licensed professional to test whether removal is needed. A licensed inspector will perform a visual inspection of the sight first for any potential threats. The pieces of the questionable material can be removed safely by an inspector for testing. Lab technicians will then test the samples to determine asbestos content. Encapsulation is the process of coating asbestos materials with a sealant. If the condition is not severe and associated hazards are less, only then encapsulation is performed. Abatement of Asbestos removes it entirely and permanently.

The Asbestos Removal Process

While licensed professionals perform the removal process wearing full-face masks with respirators during the procedure, here is a brief note on how the Asbestos removal process will look like:

  • First, turn off all the HVAC units and seal vents to prevent asbestos fibres from circulating.
  • The work area gets sealed with the help of plastic sheets.
  • Use HEPA filter vacuums and wet clean-up tools to clean the place to avoid the risk of traces.
  • All the hazardous material is removed from the site and put in marked leak-tight containers.

Getting rid of Asbestos is not a very difficult task. It is a one-time procedure and can save you and your family from many health damages. Homeowners should find the right company for the method considering factors like reviews, cost, and results, and the contractor should provide clients with a written work plan. Contractors should provide references from other customers and proof of workers certifications if clients ask for it. Once the vacuum clean-up is over, the place will become safe to stay, and you get the assurance of being safe from all health risks associated with Asbestos.
