Most cost-effective family vacation locations: a guide

Heading abroad for a family vacation is a lovely idea. It’s an opportunity for all members of the family to come together and enjoy themselves and bond, especially if everyone is busy during normal months with work, school and other projects. However, it can also be costly to get all of the family together and head off on a vacation. This article will share some top tips on how to reduce the cost of everything from currency exchange rates to flight prices.

Stay in the US

The easiest way to avoid complications such as high foreign exchange rates is to, of course, stay in the US. If you’re willing to make a road trip out of it, your US vacation can be extremely cheap. Planning your route so that you don’t go too far from a camping destination can decrease the cost even further, while many motels are affordable as well. Depending on where you go, you might still come across high costs of living – especially if you choose a US city such as San Francisco for your trip. However, by avoiding everything from the cost of covering currency exchanges to the high fees charged by airports and passed on from airlines, you can reduce the cost of your family vacation significantly.

Look at exchange rates

If you are traveling abroad, don’t forget to factor in the cost of currency conversions. The bad news is that no one country has a reputation for being consistently cheaper in terms of currencies. This is because the currency markets fluctuate, and the dollar’s value can change quickly. However, you can often save some cash on your family holiday costs by simply reading some reviews of brokers, including this Tor FX transfer review. That way, you’ll be able to locate a broker which charges cost-effective fees – and hence have a little bit more left over to spend on that dream trip to Mexico, Europe or elsewhere.

Think about flight costs

Given the US’ geographical position in the world, train-based or other non-flight travel can be a bit of a pain. It’s not like in Europe, for example, where it’s relatively painless to take a train from – say – London to the south of France. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to go on a vacation which is cost-effective in terms of travel. Canada, for example, is accessible via rail – with fares from locations on the US west coast to areas in provinces like British Columbia being less expensive.

Heading on a family holiday doesn’t have to be expensive. Going to a destination such as Mexico may well be possible by finding the right foreign exchange broker, while heading over the border to Canada can be cheap thanks to Amtrak! What matters is ensuring that you do the research required to get a good handle on your costs and moving from there to ensure that you choose a destination that is both cost-effective and fun.
